Story: The film is a story of Deba ( Soham) and Riya (Koyel)'s journey of love

Movie Review: Commercial Bengali movie is coming to a phase where their efforts of providing the common people with thoroughly enjoyable movies are taking a positive shape. " Jaaneman" is one of the results of these endeavors - smart, slick and entertaining. It's a simple love story of Deba (Soham) falling head-over-heels for an unknown face. With the intervention of fate and subsequent events, Deba gets to save his dream girl Riya (Koyel) from the clutches of her unwanted hubby-to-be. While they are fleeing to take refuge in a big city, Soham's past also catches up with him and their lives take a topsy-turvy ride.

The story is mainly told in the form of the couple's journey towards safety. Obviously love blossoms as they move from one highway to another fooling the goons who follow them relentlessly. But, it wouldn't have been possible without Soham's Deba. His effortless charm and oh-so-hot presence can save this movie from being another run-of-the-mill romance. He possesses the ability to transform himself from a chocolate boy to an angry young man in a blink of an eye, which will surely help him in the long run. N K Salil's script has also helped him doing Deba perfectly. But he has to remember that, when a hero cries on screen, he has to keep in mind that thousands of fans are scrutinizing his every move. So, their giggles during an extremely emotional scene don't sound good. Koyel has given her 100 per cent. She looks good, wears trendy clothes, but her babe-out-of-woods persona clashes with her accented Bengali. She can also work on her expressions a bit more. As for the others, Asish Vidyarthi's villainous act is convincing but Soham's friends look very amateurish on screen. Editing is smart and the director has spent a lot of time building the action sequences. They are well-shot but sometimes ruin the romantic feel of the movie, which is way more enjoyable.

One thing that has made the movie seem incomplete is the fact that there's a sense of growing tension throughout the second half. But when the movie reaches it's climax, the tension gets diluted. Incorporating a bit more drama in the climax scene would have been a perfect ending for this film.

JAANEMAN (2012) WBRi Bangla Film Review - A Road Movie with Soham and Koyel Mullick

Bengali Actress Koel Mullick & Tollywood Hero Soham in Jaaneman (2012) Bangla Movie Poster
Kolkata, May 30, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio / Penning Creations) With Jaanemon (Bengali, 2012), director Raja Chanda (interview) takes up the challenge of handling the intricacies of making a crafty road flick, a genre that is tricky for even Bollywood film-makers. The movie also features actress Koyel Mullick and Soham together for only the 2nd time after Tarun Majumdar's Chander Bari (2007).
In Janeman, we meet Deba (Soham) - a young man who is on the run, having scorned the evil underworld lynchpin Sridhar. During the course of his journey, Deba comes across the beautiful Ria (Koel Mullick) at a bus terminal.

Trailer: Jaaneman (Bengali, 2012)
Ria has secrets of her own – she is fleeing from her home in order to avoid being married off against her will by her domineering father to the brother of his mistress. Along with her sidekick, Ria takes a hike with Deba, and the two decide to go to Cooch Behar. Deba, however, has no inkling of Ria's problems yet and remains smitten by the latter's beauty.
On the way, Deba and Ria stop at a gas station where they divulge their respective predicaments. Learning about Ria's need to get away from goons hired by her father, Deba decides to take her to Kolkata, where she would find some respite. Sridhar's men, who had been chasing Deba for so long, also need to be shaken off.
However, the duo gets a far-from-warm welcome at the residence of a relative of Ria in Kolkata. Will Deba and Ria be able to survive the threats that their respective pursuers pose? Can the love that has blossomed between the two on the course of the journey reach its desirable conclusion? Catch Janemon at the theaters and get all the answers!
Director Raja Chanda deserves praise for having the fortitude and gumption of trying to create the appropriate atmosphere for a road movie in Jaaneman. The action sequences in Jaaneman are at par with the best in the industry. However, he tends to play it safe as far as the incidents in the movie are concerned. The surpriseelement is weak, and the climax, while stylishly shot, does not defy predictability.
Performance-wise, Koel Mullick as Ria is easily the standout performer in the movie. The actress, who was last seen in the lukewarm 100% Love, does manage to rise above the script. There is a certain spontaneity and zeal about Koel's performance that comes across quite beautifully in the movie. Given her potential, Koel should definitely be more selective in choosing her roles.
Soham and Koyel Mullick in JANEMAN (2012) Indian Bangla MovieSoham is clearly more at ease while essaying characters with romantic or comic flair, and while he did do a stellar job in theintense Amanush, Soham looks a bit outside his elements in an out-and-out actioner like Jaaneman. While it is, of course, not imperative for every leading man of Tollywood to have a Jeet-esque chiseled body, Soham surprises by sporadicallycoming up rather short as far as his expressions in the movie are concerned. The actor also needs to lose some of his baby fat.
Jeet Ganguli's title track is hummable, while the other tracks are acceptable without being exceptional (with Disco Nachaibogenerating polarized reactions). The background score is not that bad, either. Camerawork, by Shailesh Avasthi, is efficient. Dialogs, penned by N. K. Salil, are as trite as possible.
Jaaneman is a fair attempt by Soham to break away from his chocolate-boy image and make his mark in an action road flick. Raja Chanda also makes a conscious effort to make something different. Jaaneman does not completely challenge Koel Mullick's acting prowess. We hope that the script of the upcoming Hemlock Society will take Koel near her limits.

Story: The film follows the journey of two strangers—a jobless carefree man, living in Bangalore, and a woman with whom he has fallen in love. Upon the woman's request, he drives her to Mumbai, while a group of gangsters follow them, planning to kidnap the woman. Meanwhile, the man also has a past in the city and he goes there to sort it out.

Nominated Filmfare Award - Tamil Film Industry   Best Actor: Karthik Sivakumar
Best Actress: Tamanna Bhatia
Best Music Director: Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Director Lingusamy has stuck to the genre that he has chosen for most part. He has recorded romance in a beautiful manner especially when Karthi communicates his feelings to his friends seeking advice and his dignified attitude towards Tamannah. The car chasing sequence in the open field is absolutely brilliant and so is Karthi going reverse in the opposite direction. Cinematographer Madhie needs plaudits here. Crisp editing by Anthony especially in the action sequences is a major plus point of Paiyaa and deserves a special mention.
Paiyaa, directed by home director N. Lingusamy himself, Film released in April 2010 to become their highest-grossing film to date. In September 2007, while working on Bheema, a film starring Vikram, Linguswamy announced that Karthi would star in his next venture to be launched in January 2008. He said that he had written a story "suitable for Karthi", further adding that it would be "an action oriented film".  The following month, sources suggested that he was planning a bilingual project, filming simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu with Karthi and Ram Charan Teja, respectively. However in early November, reports claimed that Vishal would portray the protagonist after Linguswamy had considered Jayam Ravi for the lead character. The reports proved to be false and Karthi was confirmed as the lead actor of the film.

Lingusamy is a past master at packaged entertainment. His latest Paiyaa is a road movie laced with mass elements and extraordinary songs picturised in a stunning manner. Fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride.Credible performances from its lovable lead- Karthi and Tamannaah make up for the plot holes that threaten to eat into this otherwise engaging ride. Technically it is Lingusamy’s best work enriched by Mathi’s eye-catching camera work, Antony’s crisp editing, Rajeevan’s exotic set designs and above all Yuvan Shankar Raja’s foot tapping music.
Shiva (Karthi) is a young man who is on the lookout for a job and he comes to Bangalore for an interview with a bunch of friends. He sees the pretty Charulatha( Tamannaah) at the bus stop ( a la Run) and falls hook line sinker for her. And much to his surprise, his dream girl who is in some trouble, mistakes him for a driver and asks for a ride to Mumbai.
Now both the people are on a journey from Bangalore to Mumbai and the rest of the film is how they bond, face challenges, realizes that the journey was more beautiful than the destination and finally fall in love. The film is all about the hero meeting his dream girl and how his past catches up with him on this road trip.
Leading man Karthi’s first outing at attempting an action film is quite impressive with his macho looks. He competently delivers what's required of him in the action scenes, lending grace to his chop-socky moves, including stunning sequences in which he beats up dozens of goons single-handedly. Tamannaah is there from the beginning to the end and is gorgeous. Milind Soman as bad guy is wasted.
The songs of Yuvan Shankar Raja scorches just like the desert sun. The background score is perfect co-ordination with the narration. Yuvan’s music is the film’s trump card, with meaningful lyrics by Na. Muthukumar. All the five songs in the album are rocking, making it difficult to pick the best of the lot. We will say that Thuli, Thuli… and Adada Mazhada… are the more popular of the lot. Suthuthe Suthuthe… is a knockout, with terrific choreography by Sabeena Khan shot on a real beautiful set created by Rajeevan.
On the downside the film moves at a leisurely pace and the plot line is riddled with holes. In the second half especially when the couple reaches Mumbai the story plods along leading to a predictable climax. But if you are looking for just fun and entertainment Paiyaa is a jolly good ride.
Verdict: Fast &Furious

Movie Review: Vettai with Trailer

Movie Review: Vettai with Trailer

After ‘Run’ almost ten years ago, director Lingusamy and Madhavan come together in a bid to repeat the magic, this time with added strength. They have young and bubbly Arya to their company.
A sibling story, ‘Vettai’ promises plenty of action and emotion. Lingusamy has ensured that his typical commercial elements find a place in ‘Vettai’ that proceeds in quick pace with enough twists and turns.
Firstly, the story is as old as the hill. Something we have seen since MGR days. But Lingusamy has given a fresh coat to it. There are host of characters and events unfold without a pause.
Gurumurthy (Madhavan) and Thirumurthy (Arya) are brothers who are contrast to each other. The former is shy and timid while the latter is bold and takes things by its horns
Their father is a police officer. After his demise, a reluctant Guru is forced to take up the job. Thiru assures him all help. He even goes to the extent of working undercover and helps his brother emerge successful in fighting goons.
There is Vasanthi (Sameera), a talkative village belly who marries Guru. Her sister Jayanthi (Amala Paul) falls for Thiru and his mannerisms.
Meanwhile there is one Annachi (Asutosh Rana), an embodiment of evil in the town. He takes cudgels against Guru. Now Thiru steps in to set things right. At one point, coward Guru is prepared to face all challenges. How the two brothers join hands to eliminate Annachi forms the rest.
Madhavan is at his best playing a timid youth. He seems to share a good rapport working with Lingusamy and it is evident on screen. Arya is appealing. His vibrant energy adds strength to his character. At places, his character seems to resemble the one that he did in ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’.
Amala Paul and Sameera Reddy share equal screen space.  Three cheers to Nirav Shah. The man behind the lens has done a commendable job. He has captured the village with all its beauty. The soft lens speaks poetry. Equally impressive are the stunt sequences captured by his camera. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs are just adequate.
Produced by Thirupathi Brothers and released by UTV Motion Pictures, ‘Vettai’ is a cliched path traveled by Lingusamy. But the right packaging of commercial elements with apt star cast makes it count.
If you are ready to forget all logic and want to enjoy a masala movie this festive season, head on to ‘Vettai’
